Millions of people around the world enjoy the exercise and entertainment that a backyard trampoline can provide. From calorie burning jumps to core muscle building balancing exercises, there are more ways to get a workout while having fun on a trampoline than any other piece of sports equipment. But have you ever wondered how this rebounding marvel came to be? Here are some facts about the history of the trampoline and how it's simple collection of trampoline parts work together to provide you with a once in a lifetime bouncing experience that you'll never forget.
Have you ever seen trapeze artist perform in a circus? Swinging back and forth high above the big top, these highly trained gymnasts depend on the safety net below to keep them from a serious fall or injury if they were to miss the bar during one of their tricks. Back in the 1930's a man named George Nissan was watching just such a performance when he was inspired to make the trampoline. He noticed that when the trapeze artists dismounted into the safety net, the elasticity of the net would send them back up into the air for one last flip or trick before they swung onto the ground.
Nissan thought that it would be wonderful if he could construct a trampoline mat that would provide this same bouncing ability to the athletes over and over again. That way, gymnasts could work on their flips, twists, and jumps without needing to climb back up and down the tall trapeze tower. Nissan assembled an iron frame and a canvas trampoline mat, and attached the two together with large metal springs. The result was the first modern trampoline, and even trampolines made commercially today still follow this simple design.
By the 1940's Nissan and his business partner were happily manufacturing rel=nofollow [http://www.trampolinepartscenter.com/]trampolines out of their Cedar Rapids, Iowa factory, and thousands of children were busy bouncing around in their yards and school gyms. Then, when World War II broke out a few years later, the Armed Forces placed a big order for trampolines. They discovered that these toys could be useful tools for training pilots and navigators how to respond quickly in inverted, weightless situations. Those who were afraid of heights or falling could be taught to jump on the trampoline, and soon their fears were greatly reduced. It's amazing to think how many uses this simple machine actually has.

Gymnastics Pit: Dos and Don'ts
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Scarlett_James]Scarlett James
DO NOT...
Do not land head first into the pit
Do not bury yourself under the pit blocks.
Do not attempt skills you cannot do by yourself safely
Do not land on your knees in the pit
Do not dig holes in the pit blocks
Do not throw foam out of the pit
Do not pick the foam pit blocks apart
Do not throw foam blocks at anyone's face
MAKE SURE...
Make sure you land in the pit!
Make sure you take turns going into the pit
Make sure only one gymnast at a time is in the pit
Make sure no one is in the pit before you use it
Make sure to land in a pike position if dropping from rope
Make sure the foam pit is fluffed regularly
*Make sure to clean out the foam pit every once in-awhile
*It is very important to take time and clean out the gymnastics pit a few times a year. Over time and with a lot of wear and tear the blocks start to flake apart. This causes a lot o dust and small foam pit pieces to be in the pit that often get into the gymnast's eyes. When you clean out foam pits you may never know what you may find in the bottom. Some of the common things are hair clips, headbands, ponytail holders, stud earrings, jewelry, socks (even though they aren't suppose to wear them), Band-Aids, etc. And you may even find a few crazy things; we have found glasses, retainers, hand grips, and a dead mouse.
Cleaning a foam pit out can be a very dirty job. Make sure you wear masks and even safety glasses to keep all the dust and flakes out of your mouth, nose, and eyes!
One of our gymnasts always got foam pieces in her eyes, so one day she came to class wearing swimming goggles! She wore the goggles the whole time she did pit tumbling...Needless to say she didn't get any foam in her eyes!

Your Guide to Trampoline Accessories - Increasing Safety
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Caroline_Ann_Tan]Caroline Ann Tan
These days, many people are looking for ways to trick themselves into exercising. Health websites will offer you advice about "parking as far away from the grocery store as possible and walking in" or "taking the stairs instead of the elevator," but when you sit all day in front of a desk, and then sit all night in front of a television or computer, the chances are that even these "tricks" aren't going to have much of an impact on your overall health. Why not invest in equipment that will actually make physical exercise fun? Thousands of people have discovered the entertainment and exercise that are readily available with a backyard trampoline.
If you've been looking for a type of exercise that would allow you to incorporate the whole family, trampolines are the perfect solution. Doctors and exercise experts have long studied the way that the rebounding action of the trampoline is able to work both the cardiovascular and core muscle systems all at once. Better yet, some studies have shown that the alternating jumping and subsequent weightlessness actually encourage your body's cells to let go of the toxins that can weigh you down and make you feel ill.
Now that you're sold on the idea of using a trampoline for exercise, it's important to make sure that you are aware of all the trampoline accessories that are necessary to keep the structure safe and in good working order. One of the first things that you'll need to get (if it doesn't already come with your trampoline) is a trampoline anchor kit. These few pieces of hardware will be indispensible, especially if you're planning on storing your trampoline outside. Windy days and heavier jumpers mean that the entire frame is at risk of turning over, potentially causing injuries or damage to the structure itself if you don't have an anchor kit.
Another one of the most essential trampoline accessories is the trampoline pad. This is a special covering designed to fit all the way around your rel=nofollow [http://www.trampolinepartscenter.com/]trampolines, no matter whether it's round, square or rectangular. This pad not only keeps people from falling in the gap between the edge of the trampoline mat and the springs, it also acts as a colorful boundary, so that jumpers can adjust position while they're in the air, making sure to always land as close to the center of the mat as possible. Spend some time shopping around for safety features before you settle on your trampoline.

Your Trampoline Accessory Is Damaged - What Do You Do?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Caroline_Ann_Tan]Caroline Ann Tan
You don't have to do much research into popular exercise equipment and sports machines before you run across people who recommend getting a trampoline. Doctors and physical fitness experts have agreed for years that the unique rebounding motion of the trampoline is an ideal way to burn calories while at the same time increasing your core muscle strength. The other thing you're likely to notice is that several consumer watch organizations have found that while the use of trampolines is up (there are over three million recreational trampolines in the U.S. alone) the corresponding statistics for trampoline related injuries is also up.
To ensure that trampolines are used safely, and there is a minimal risk of injury while adults and children are playing on the structures, it's important to install the correct trampoline accessories. Many of the most popular trampoline manufacturers and retailers are now selling kits that include trampoline pads, enclosures, and anchor kits so that people won't have to be tempted to jump on the trampoline before they have all the proper trampoline accessories installed. It's important to use this as a comparison factor when you're shopping for rel=nofollow [http://www.trampolinepartscenter.com/]trampolines, because it's often worth it to purchase accessories that are specially made for your kit.
Once you've got everything properly installed, it's time to bounce the day away, but your responsibilities as far as trampoline maintenance and repair are just beginning. It's important to make sure that you complete a daily inspection of your entire trampoline structure, from the mat to the springs, before you start jumping for the day. If you've got trampoline accessories installed, you have to make sure you inspect those as well, because if they've become compromised, it's just as if you've removed them from the structure altogether.
Because the trampoline accessories are so important to the safe use of the structure, you have to have a plan in place in case you discover that a trampoline part is damaged. There are a few options if you find yourself in your situation. First, you can keep everyone off of the structure until you can get a replacement part from the manufacturer. Second, you can try to find a replacement part from a local retailer, but you run the risk of getting a generic part that doesn't fit well with your brand of trampoline. Third, you can call up a trampoline repair service that will send a repairman out to your house, or allow you to ship the part into them and wait for a repair.

Third, you can call up a trampoline repair service that will send a repairman out to your house, or allow you to ship the part into them and wait for a repair.

What Is Your Gymnastics Routine Missing to Receive a 10.0? The WOW FACTOR!
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Scarlett_James]Scarlett James
I have seen countless number of gymnasts do a near perfect routine and not score as high as they thought they would. Their disappointment and agony shows as tears start rolling down their cheeks. Then they ask that famous little question, "what did I do wrong?"
It is not so much that they did something wrong, they usually are just missing the WOW FACTOR in their floor routine and beam routine.
Keep in mind, a judge may see the same gymnastics routine 100s of times. In all honesty they get a little board and want to see something that stands out. You can't just hit your routine, you got to leave a mark and a good impression on the judges by giving them the WOW FACTOR they are looking for.
What is a WOW FACTOR? A wow factor is going to be something that wows the judges. A little extra spice in your routine that get the judge's attention and makes your floor routine and beam routine stand out. This means you cannot just go through the motions of your routine.
Every judge wants to see a tight, clean, flawless routine, but this won't get a gymnast the high score they are striving for. There is more to a routine than that. Presentation and showmanship is very important when competing. This means every gymnast must finish every skill, stay in releve, have full body extension, keep their chin up, smile constantly and go all out on every skill. They must show a great amount of confidence and enthusiasm and not look timid or afraid. This will grab the judges attention and give them the wow factor they have been looking for!
You need to practice the way you compete. Going through the motions during practice and a meet is not good enough. You need to give it 110% on every skill and every beam routine and floor routine. This will give the judges the wow factor they want to see and will set you apart from the rest of the gymnasts.
Give the judges and audience a gymnastics routine to remember!!! GO GET THEM GIRLS!!

What Is Recreational Gymnastics and Who Is It For?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Scarlett_James]Scarlett James
Recreational gymnastics is designed for kids that want to learn basic gymnastics skills, stay fit, build strength and flexibility but don't want to commit to long hours in the gym or partake in competitions.
Children of any age and skill level can participate in a recreational gymnastics program. Most rec gymnastics programs are built around USAG recommendations and standards. USAG require each gymnastics coach and business owner to become members and go through a safety training course and test. This is very important and helps decrease the chance of injury to your child.
Recreational gymnastics programs are usually categorizes by both, age and skill level. Mommy and me class, preschool and kindergarten are all designed for specific ages. Mommy and me class is for children usually 18 months to 3 years old, preschool class is for 3 to 5 year olds and kindergarten class is designed for 5 and 6 year olds. All the rest of the rec gymnastics classes are based on gymnastics skills. The classes are arranged as followed: beginner, advance beginner, intermediate, level 1, level 2... so on and so forth. A gymnast must master all the skills in their gymnastics level before they get to move up to the next level.
Recreational gymnasts get to use the floor exercise, balance beam, uneven bars, vault, pit, and trampoline. They also get to use many types of mats that aide in the learning of specific gymnastics skills. There is some equipment in a gymnastics academy that rec gymnast do not get to us. They usually don't get use high bar, strap bar, harnesses, etc.
Most rec gymnasts take gymnastics classes 1 to 2 times a week and each class is usually about an hour long. Every rec class starts with a warm up and usually ends with conditioning.

Benefits of Jumping On Trampoline - Physical and Mental
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Caroline_Ann_Tan]Caroline Ann Tan
Have you been looking for a way to lose weight and tone up your flabby muscles, but just can't stomach the high monthly cost of a gym membership? Do you want to set an example of health and physical fitness for your children, but can't afford to sign your whole family up for exercise classes with a physical trainer? Many people think that trampolines are just a backyard toy for kids, but there are studies that have confirmed the benefits of jumping on trampoline, even for adults.
If you don't already have access to a mini indoor trampoline, or a full sized outdoor trampoline, you should know that while they are appropriate for all ages, there are some modifications necessary to make them completely safe. Many newer brands of full size trampolines now come equipped with trampoline ladders so that mounting and dismounting the structure leaves little chance for unexpected falls. You might also want to consider a trampoline mat, which makes it impossible for limbs and bodies to slip between the jumping surface and the trampoline springs. If you or members of your family are going to be attempting to learn tricks and flips, you might also want to consider a trampoline enclosure to keep landings from happening on the ground instead of the jumping surface.
One of the most important benefits of jumping on trampoline springs is that you'll be getting a thorough cardiovascular workout. These days, people are always sitting: at the breakfast table, in the car, at their desk at work, and on the couch at night. Jumping on a trampoline will get your blood pumping, force you to take deep breaths, and you might even break a sweat- all while participating in an activity that will make you laugh out loud!
Another benefit of jumping on a trampoline is self esteem, especially for younger children. As children gain confidence while jumping on the trampoline springs, they will start to be proud of their new found skills. They can start to interact better with others who want to learn how to do the same tricks, and will experience what it feels like to be in a position to teach people new skills. If your child has previously had trouble making friends, there's nothing better than being the only kid in the neighborhood with full size rel=nofollow [http://www.trampolinepartscenter.com/]trampolines. Just make sure all safety features are installed before other children begin using it.

Buying Trampolines - Evaluating Shape and Size
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Caroline_Ann_Tan]Caroline Ann Tan
Most of the time when you buy an expensive piece of sporting equipment, it's because you're trying to become the best at a sport you love, but what about when you're buying a piece of equipment for recreation and exercise only? Trampolines are quickly becoming one of the most popular pieces of non-competitive sports equipment for families to own, but choosing the best model and brand means you have to pay a little more attention to trampoline parts and features than you may ever have done in the past. Two of the most important characteristics to keep in mind when you're buying a trampoline are shape and size.
Many people might think that shape and size are two arbitrary characteristics, left more to personal preference than actual need. But you might be surprised to learn how much these two features can actually influence your jumping experience. Think about how you're going to use the trampoline before you buy it, and what kind of bouncing experience you want to provide to your family, and then you're ready to start evaluating the many different brands and styles of trampolines to find the one that will suit your needs the best.
There are a large variety of trampoline shapes available on the market today including, round, octagonal, rectangular and square. Round or circular trampolines are designed so that the jumper will naturally remain in the center of the structure and are the most popular shape for recreational backyard jumping. Octagonal trampolines are designed to create a larger jumping area that won't automatically pull you into the middle. Some jumpers say that the straight sides help to orient the jumper so that they can have freedom without landing too close to the sides.
Trampolines that are made in a rectangular shape also provide a larger space for the jumper to enjoy and but are typically purchased by those that are interested in gymnastics or competitive trampoline jumping, because the competition trampolines are always rectangular and have the most responsive bounce action. Square rel=nofollow [http://www.trampolinepartscenter.com/]trampolines are very similar to rectangular trampolines except that they are more compact and the bounce is not as responsive. Once you've narrowed down which trampoline shape is best for you, you can start to think about trampoline accessories and the size that you'll need. All shapes of trampoline mats come in various sizes, from eight feet to sixteen feet and can sometime be larger.

Back Flips On A Trampoline - How to Get Started
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Caroline_Ann_Tan]Caroline Ann Tan
Riding bikes, building forts, and swimming at the pool are all great summer time activities, but what do you do when you're tired of doing the same old stuff with your friends? Wouldn't it be great if there was a fun new activity that you could use to challenge yourself and get great exercise, all from the comfort of your own backyard? Well, thousands of kids all over the country are already experiencing this by having their very own trampoline. When you have time to practice and perfect your skills on the trampoline springs, you'll be surprised how much of a bouncing, flipping expert you can become.
It's important to realize that when you're setting out to learn trampoline tricks, you've got to make sure you take all the necessary precautions so that your experience will be as accident free as possible.
Everyone has heard stories about people being injured on trampoline springs, but that's usually because they were using the structure incorrectly, or they failed to install the proper trampoline accessories so that they could bounce around safely. It's also important for people to know that you can be too young and light, and too old and heavy to use rel=nofollow [http://www.trampolinepartscenter.com/]trampolines.
As with everything in life, it's important to start out slow and progress at a pace which seems comfortable to you. Of course, if you're in relatively good shape and you've got the time to commit to learning, it's possible to be doing pretty impressive tricks in just a matter of days. Start by getting used to the trampoline springs by walking all around the structure and getting a feel for the way that the mat reacts to your weight. You'll notice that the mat around the edges of the trampoline is much more rigid than the area in the middle. This is why the middle is the best place to practice all your tricks.
Before you attempt complicated trampoline tricks like the back flip, it's important to perfect the first stage of this trick: the front flip. If you can flip forwards while bouncing as hard as you can, and don't even have to think about getting your feet around in time to stick the landing, you're probably ready for the back flip. If you have a trampoline enclosure that you can install until you're used to spotting your own landing, that's usually helpful. Just like the front flip, start by practicing the flip from a standstill before you add the bounce.

Instructions To Help You Fold Your Folding Trampoline
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_C_Logan]Michael C Logan
Mini trampolines are very easy to use and store and set-up. They have a variety of styles, designs, sizes and shapes. They may have fixed legs or legs that are removable. They also have either full padding or rail-only padding that can be removed or attached separately as per your wishes. Some come with attachments like the stabilizing bar or netted enclosures to help the user, while others just stand alone.
The folding ones are very good for small spaces because they can so easily be stored. It is not difficult to fold them and usually the instructions are supplied by the manufacturer itself. If you have one that has removable legs then the first step to folding it is to flip it over. You must unscrew each of the legs and remove them. The round frame must be laid flat on the ground with the thread connectors facing. You must push down on the rails. The resistance that it will have may be too much for one person to handle so you could get assistance. If assistance is not readily available you can use a piece of furniture like a couch or a coffee table to help you overcome the resistance.
If your trampoline has wire rings and their securing pins then you need to unhook each ring from the pin. If not you are already ready to fold it in half. The frame might tend to snap back in place when you attempt to fold it so always get someone to help you for this step. If your piece allows you to quarter fold then you can do so. Now you can secure it in place with the provided safety features and store it away. [http://www.foldingtrampoline.org/folding-trampoline-c1_2.html]Folding Trampolines provide an excellent way of getting your daily exercise. There are many great mini trampolines to choose from.

Tumbling Over Eating Disorders: A Constant Threat for Athletes
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michelle_Dye]Michelle Dye
A good competition involves pivotal moments, which determine who wins and loses. Athletes face a lot of pressure that can lead to eating disorders, such as bulimia or anorexia. In some sports, athletes are required to be a certain weight in order to compete. Gymnast, dancers, and figure skaters have the highest occurrence of eating disorders because their sport focuses on appearance.
Most athletes believe that to win the competition and be successful their bodies must be thin. When that belief goes askew and disordered eating results, this can lead to poor performance because the athlete doesn't receive proper nutrients the body requires. Those closest to athletes suffering from an eating disorder either do not recognize the signs of anorexia and bulimia or do not believe the athlete would become self-abusive.
In addition to the physical effects of disordered eating, a psychological component also exists. As a former competitive gymnast, the pressure and stress of meeting a certain size became a challenge. I started watching everything I ate and drank while working out five to eight hours a day and competing once or twice per week. The scrutiny from competitors, coaches and judges kept me on edge and I often wondered whether my size became more important than how well I performed.
All athletes strive for perfection and will do whatever it takes, even if their life is at risk. To illustrate, one of my competitors began losing weight without proper nutritional advice after being told she needed to drop a few pounds and eventually became bulimic. Anorexia and bulimia also plagued U.S. gymnast "Christy Henrich." Word has it that along the way, a judge told Henrich she was too fat to excel or succeed in gymnastics. To combat that negative mental view of her body, she began extreme dieting and eventually developed an eating disorder. She died from multiple organ failure at the age of 22, weighing only 47 pounds.
Pinpointing the external signs of anorexia and bulimia are the first step to saving the life of a loved one. Some of those signs include:
Anorexia:
Excessive weight loss
Always thinking about food, calories, and body weight
Wearing layered clothing
Mood swings
Avoiding food activities
Bulimia:
Excessive weight loss or gain
Being overly concerned with one's weight
Visiting the bathroom after meals
Depression
Excessive dieting followed by binge eating
Always criticizing one's body
Eating disorders can be deadly, if not treated quickly. To learn more about these two eating disorders or to find a medical provider that treats anorexia or bulimia, please visit the rel=nofollow http://www.iTriageHealth.com or download iTriage for your smartphone. http://www.iTriageHealth.com

Gymnastics Booster Clubs
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Howard_Gottlieb]Howard Gottlieb
Are you on a gymnastics team that is low on funding? Maybe your team does not have enough money for new equipment, or new uniforms. Or maybe the team doesn't even have enough money for a coach. If you are pinching your pennies trying to come up with money, there may be a great solution.
Gymnastics booster clubs is a great way to get that extra money your team may need. These booster clubs are simple and straight forward, but do require plenty of hard work. With a few good leaders, creativity, and organization, your team can create a great gymnastics booster club and it can hold gymnastics fundraisers to help with the costs.
Many times booster clubs are created to help defray the cost of fees and other expenses for each child. Gymnastics can be a very expensive sport that can easily put a strain on any family's pocket book. Gymnastics booster clubs can be created for any purpose. Your team might be looking for a new coach who is expensive, or there may be a gymnast who just financially cannot be on the team. When creating a booster club you want to first come up with goals. Whether you are buying new equipment, or new uniforms, you need to make sure that the club has the same goals.
It is good to have more than one goal so that more people can help. Create committee leaders that will help reach a certain goal. If you are looking to raise money for a scholarship, the committee leader and the committee needs to find a fundraiser that will suit them the best. You can sell candy bars, scratch cards, candles, or have car washes. Whatever fundraiser your committee performs, you want to make sure that it is well organized. Creating a fundraiser can be a big hassle, but there are new ways to help. The internet has several websites can take the load off of you, so that you can focus on other things.
Gymnastics booster clubs can be used for any thing. Not only is it a great way to raise money, but it also helps to bring the team and families closer together.

Gymnastics Lessons for Children
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Howard_Gottlieb]Howard Gottlieb
Are you looking to get your little gymnast competing on the next level? Are you looking to get your gymnast competing at any level? Whether your child seems to be the next Olympic gymnast, or they can't even do a cartwheel, there is a gymnastics lesson for your child. Parents love seeing their kids happy at gymnastics lessons, children love to goof off and flip around. There are hundreds of different levels, quality, and instructors that teach gymnastics lessons. The trick is finding the gymnastics lesson that will fit your child the best.
If cost is a factor see the gym holds gymnastics fundraisers to help defray your cost.
If your child was doing the splits and back flips at the age of two, it is a sure thing that your kid is a gymnast. If your kid can't touch their toes or walk a straight line, you might want to put them in a different sport.
Gymnastics is a sport that requires extreme flexibility and balance. If your child doesn't seem to have either, there may be hope still. Put them in a beginner level class where they will learn about stretching and balance and walking without falling. Maybe your child won't become the next gold medalist in gymnastics, but if they enjoy it, let them do it. As long as they are having a good time while staying active, it is a good thing all around. Hey, it is better than watching television all day.
If your child is flipping around the house, and does the splits in their sleep, you want to put them in a higher level gymnastics class. If you are looking for a class or lesson to get your child into and can't seem to find one, Google gymnastics lessons children and your area code, hundreds of lessons will pop-up. These lessons can range anywhere from beginner, to professional.
One thing that you need to keep in mind when looking for lessons is the price. It usually goes the higher level of lessons, the higher price. This is because the coaches who teach advanced lessons are well trained and very professional. The beginner gymnastics lessons are usually taught be cheerleaders and gymnasts who want to make a few extra bucks, and like being around children.
Also, another reason for the higher price in higher levels is because of the equipment and other training supplies. There are new beams, mats, rings, and bars. There are video cameras that tape the kids so that they can see what they did wrong. There are dozens of things that bring the price up on advanced levels.
Gymnastics lessons can be very pricey; it can also be very rewarding. Gymnastics is a great sport that keeps kids excited to come back, and parents happy because they are staying healthy.

Keeping Customers Happy
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Patti_Komara]Patti Komara
New students, new students, more students- aren't we as studio owners always worrying about gaining new students? We know that if we want to keep those doors open we've got to gain new students- right? Well, the answer is yes- and no.
Many dance teachers have found they have better success if, instead of looking for ways to increase enrollment by focusing on new students, they turn their attention and efforts to the students currently taking classes in their studios.
What can you do for the students are already coming to your studio? You can make them feel special! So special that they will tell all their friends.
Times and social customs are changing rapidly these days. Every professional knows that as times change, you must change and upgrade procedures and techniques. But one thing what shouldn't change is your philosophy of delivering as much as possible to the customer at the lowest fair price.
That good old-fashioned service attitude will make the difference in retaining your present students and will turn them into your best salespeople. Satisfied students will bring you more students than you can handle.
At our studio it's been determined through questionnaires that more than 88% of our new students are referred from our satisfied students. The student is a customer and you've got to please the customer.
Quality customer service starts when you transmit a positive attitude towards others. You must identify the needs of your customers and then provide for those needs. With competition in our industry on the rise, it makes economic sense to give quality customer service.
The basic customer needs four things: to be understood; to feel welcomed; to feel important; to feel comfortable. Everyone has these needs. Think over how a dance school can fulfill these needs.
Who is our customer? Is it the student or the parents? The answer is both. Let's address both as our subjects.
Generally the first impression your customers encounter will be over the telephone. Make sure you have your best person answering the phone. You never have a second chance to make a first impression. It is strongly preferable that a human is answering the phone, not a machine. Of course, humans are not perfect (but neither are machines.) Problems are sometimes caused by the person doing the over-the-phone registration forgetting some important information.
Post a "new student checklist" near the phone and don't let the new or prospective customer off the phone until all items are completely discussed. Then, put the name and phone number on the "new student list" on the front desk bulletin board. Every morning the receptionist should memorize the names and class times of the new students expected that day. When the apprehensive new customer walks in the door, she will be greeted by a friendly person behind the counter who says, "Hi, Mrs. Johnson? You're here with Michelle for the 9:30 four-year old class, right? It's nice to meet you (with a firm, friendly handshake)."
After the necessary paperwork is finished, the receptionist should take the new customer on a tour of the facility noting: bathrooms, observation area, lost and found spot, et cetera- especially mentioning other programs such as dance aerobics and boys' classes while walking through the studio. When the class is ready to start, the receptionist should introduce the new student to the teacher. The key is to make that new customer feel as special as possible. Remember, the attitude you send out is usually the attitude you'll get back. At the conclusion of the class the teacher should walk the new student to the parent while asking the child how he or she liked the class. Explain the reasons behind your activities in that class to the parents as well as your major philosophy. For example, our philosophy is to teach the children dance in a fun, safe environment and increase the child's self-confidence. Every class is designed to meet those goals.
That evening we mail out a "glad you could join us" postcard with a personal note. Within two days we reach the parents by phone. We ask how the child liked the class and if the parents had any questions about the program.
What else can be done for the present student? We send a birthday card to each student. When a student calls in sick, we mail a get-well card that day. If a child has a particularly good day, a special "certificate" is sent to the parents and child in the mail. If a parent makes a positive suggestion, or even a negative comment, we send them a thank you not with an "Exceptional Parent Award" certificate in the mail. Each instructor has embossed dance school thank you notes to express appreciation through the mail if a child gives a gift. Children love getting mail and won't forget your kindness soon.
When a parent makes a negative comment, it must be handled very carefully. The dissatisfied customer who leaves will tell ten people about the negative experience. Seven out of that ten may not re-enroll. A happy customer, I'm sorry to report, tells on the average of two people about the positive experience. Always work with customers in the same manner you'd like to be treated. If you've made a change that reflected a suggestion or a complaint, always make a "follow-up" call to thank the person giving the input for the suggestion and tell them of the change.
We have another customer service slogan we live by. It's "give the customer what they expect". From the beginning, if you give the customers what they expect, they'll be more ready to accept you and your policies. For example, people expect prompt replies to their calls left on an answering machine. Make that an important goal. They wanted to talk to you. You weren't there. You must get back to them as soon as possible. Stop and think of what else the customer expects. Make a list and insist of pursuing excellence in each of those areas. Quality is free. Give it!
After you give the customer what you feel they expect- give them more. Have special events just for them- Christmas parties, Easter Egg Hunts, or Halloween Haunted Houses. You could provide workshops about aspects of raising children or other topics of interest, led by local experts. Hand out our articles pertaining to children. Have a bulletin board with information concerning children's health and fitness. Do more than they expect.
Many studios expend a tremendous amount of money and effort to gain new customers and minimal effort to keep old customers. Listen to your customer complaints. Get out these and talk to them personally. It will tell you as much as a paid consultant would tell you. Have a suggestion box and encourage your student's parents to use it.
Our main goal is to not let a "present student" become a former student. Quality may being them in, but excellent customer service will keep them. Knowledge is power, but only is applied.
Take these ideas and PLEASE THE CUSTOMER!

Gymnastics Leotards - 5 Rules To Help You Make The Best Choice
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Elizabeth_Waller]Elizabeth Waller
Listed here are the 5 Golden Rules to Gymnastics Leotard Buying.
Golden Rule # 1, Comfort is always at the top of the list. A comfortable gymnastics leotard should fit in a way that allows a gymnast to move in the full range of motion necessary to accomplish the many different types of gymnastics skills. Remember, young gymnast will be able to focus on learning new gymnastics skills much easier, if her leotard is comfortable.
Golden Rule # 2, Proper Fit. A leotard that is too tight will not allow freedom of movement and a leotard that is too loose will not offer the necessary support that a gymnasts body will require. And you have to remember that each brand has their own sizing and fit matrix. Keep in mind that leotards are not one size fits all. Proper fit of a new leotard is very important. A gymnast that is a size medium with Brand X may not be same size with Brand Y. It's important to take the required measurement such as hips, waist, chest and girth. To ensure a proper fit refer to that manufacturers sizing guide before making your purchase.
Golden Rule # 3, Type of Material. The type of material used in the construction of your new leotard is paramount. Unlike dancing leotards that are made of cotton. Gymnastics leotards need to wick moisture away from the body in order to keep the gymnast cool and dry during their workouts. The highest quality gymnastics leotards are constructed of a Nylon and Spandex blend that promotes a high degree of moisture management.
Golden Rule # 4, Quality of Construction. A great gymnastics leotard should last for years. This is usually only possible with the use of high quality professional sewing machines and materials. The type of stitch that is required to produce a high quality, long lasting leotard are not usually available with a non-professional sewing machine.
Golden Rule # 5, Style. Looking good is as important as feeling good. Look for leotards that allow your young gymnast to express her own personal style. Thankfully, the days of drab monotone leotards are behind us. All of our favorite manufacturers offer fantastic styles and fabrics that are sure to put a smile on the face of any young gymnast.
You can trust and believe in these Golden Rules to help you make the proper choice when buying your next gymnastics leotard.

This is where the vaulting board comes in to make the exercise much more productive though you will find hard time while using it.
It can work perfectly well with other tools that are used during the exercise. You will benefit a lot if it is put together with the running strips and vaulting table. The more you practice with it, your skills at doing acrobatics will increase.
In line with this apparatus is the horse which can also be used together with the vaulting board. This apparatus is 1.25m high with its length being 1.6m.

For as long as you are serious at what you are doing, you will come out victorious even if it will be hard for you to master the techniques of using this equipment.

The vault board can also be used during gymnastic events to find out the people who are so skillful at using it. Its material which is sometime made up of wood and metal makes it easy for the gymnasts to do their jumping.
Make sure you have mastered the art of using the vaulting board before you risk your dear life to participate in any competition hence all you have to do is practice a little harder from which you will become perfect.

Before you start doing any sort of exercise to keep fit, there are some important tools you have to purchase to help you out in the whole process. As you are using the equipment, make sure the machines are comfortable to help you exercise properly with a lot of ease.
The hardest equipment to cope up with is the vaulting board. You will find it hard to get used to this apparatus hence you will need to put in more effort to learn how to use it.
Alongside this equipment, you will also have to get used to some other tools that work hand in hand. These may include; mats, vaulting table and many more. With the combination of all these materials, your body will become flexible.
While using the vaulting board, you will have to use a horse which is 1.6m tall and 1.25m wide. This apparatus will help you to develop your body skills and keep fit.
As you are doing your work out, you have to face the horse lengthwise after which you are supposed to put your hand on top of it. It will then move you around in an acrobatic style until you complete the exercise.
Amongst all the exercises, this kind is the hardest to master. But if you put in more effort, all can turn out perfect in the long run.
The vault board is one of the most useful apparatus used while working out. They can also be used to help a gymnast who wants to high jump during a gymnastic event. Their material is made up of wood and a nice spring which makes it easy for the jump to be perfect.
You should be very certain that this tool won't give you any hard time hence you have to be well conversant with the operation of the vault board before using it. Any slight mistake can lead to severe damages on the gymnast.

Washing Instructions for a Long Lasting Gymnastics Leotard
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Scarlett_James]Scarlett James
Time after time I have seen my gymnasts come into our gymnastics academy wearing a brand new leotard. There is just one problem, it doesn't look like a new gymnastics leotard. I see many new leotards that are super faded, have rhinestones missing and colors that bled together. This is very disappointing when a parent spends their hard earned money on a new gymnastics leotard and it gets ruined after one wash. To ensure sure this doesn't happen to you and your new gymnastics leotard you need to follow the washing instructions on the tag. One problem is many gymnast say the tag is itchy so their parents cut it out. This means mom and dad no longer have the washing instructions and this usually leads to a disaster leotard. If this happens you should follow theses washing guidelines....
Make sure you wash it with a very mild liquid detergent. Usually Woolite or baby detergent (baby magic, dreft, baby all) work the best.
Always was the gymnastics leotard in cold water. Using hot water will make the colors bleed more
It is always best to wash gymnastics leos by hand. If you decided not to wash them by hand you need to wash them in a gentle cycle with like items. This will eliminate pulls, snags, and bleeding from other clothes.
Turn your gymnastics leotard inside out when you wash it. This will help the special finish on your leo to last much longer.
When it comes to drying a gymnastics leotard it always best to hang dry it. If needed you can throw the gymnastics leo in the dryer for a bit on super low heat.
Follow these instructions and you will have a gymnastics leotard that will not lose its color or shine and will look brand new all the time.

Gymnastics Level 1-10 Balance Beam Times
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Scarlett_James]Scarlett James
Gymnastics level 1, 2 and 3 balance beam routine has a time limit of 30 seconds.
Gymnastics level 4 beam routine has a time limit of 50 seconds.
Gymnastics level 5 balance beam routine has a time limit of 1 minute and 5 seconds.
Gymnastics level 6 beam routine has a time limit of 1 minute and 10 seconds.
Gymnastics level seven balance beam routine must be a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of 1 minute 20 (80 seconds).
Gymnastics level 8, 9 and 10 minimum of 30 seconds maximum of 1 minute and 30 seconds (90 seconds).
Ten seconds before your time is up the person timing will either ring a bell or say "warning." Once your time is up you will either hear a bell ring again or the person timing say "time." If you go over time you will receive a 0.10 deduction from your average score. If you are a level 7-10 and your routine is shorter than 30 seconds you will receive a 2.00 point deduction from your final score plus a deduction for whatever is missing in your routine. The time for a beam routine will began as soon as the gymnast takes off from the mat or springboard. And the time ends as soon as the gymnast lands on the mat after her dismount. If the gymnast falls during her routine the person timing will stop the time once the gymnast makes contact with the floor. The time will restart as soon as the gymnast makes her first move to continue her routine. The gymnast only has 30 seconds to remount the balance beam after she falls off. This time will be timed separately; this means there must be two stop watches. The person timing will notify the gymnast when she has 20 seconds and also 10 seconds remaining to remount the beam. If she doesn't remount the beam within the time limit the balance beam routine will be terminated. Within the 30 second fall time a gymnastics coach is allowed to coach and talk to the gymnast without receiving any deduction. During the fall time the gymnast may perform a skill on the mat but will receive a 0.20 deduction.

High School Gymnastics Classes
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Paul_A_Buchanan]Paul A Buchanan
The average student in high school will take an interest in at least one extra -curricular activity during their high school career. While their grades and study habits are important, the time away from class spent with their peers can be equally as crucial to their development. Many girls - and guys, though not as many - choose to participate in gymnastics. Here are some of the benefits of this program, should your daughter be showing an interest:
Coordination Development. By practicing over and over on balance beams, a girl starts to learn how her muscles work, how to compensate for missteps, and how to fall without getting hurt.
Strength Development. Proportionally, a well-trained gymnast is the strongest athlete in the Olympics. They end up with an all-body strength, and not just certain muscle groups.
Flexibility Development. Daily stretching and exercises in gymnastics classes leave members with an ultra-flexible body. Being more flexible can help prevent injuries, both in the classes as well as in day-to-day activities.
Self-Esteem Development. It's no secret that gymnasts fail all the time, especially when first starting out. Few are born with the great balance, strength, and flexibility that is required to excel in this field. If she is committed to the class, the instructors will teach her how to pick herself up and try again and again until she gets it right. This sort of behavior can prepare her for making mistakes in the real world, how to deal with those mistakes, and how to improve. Developing this perspective helps instill self-esteem, as she begins to realize that nothing is out of reach.
Goal-Setting Habits. Goals are set in gymnastics classes, and the regimen is then designed to reach these goals. This sort of "plan of action" translates well into society, especially in the workplace. We know our goals and our lives are then centered around achieving them, rather than aimlessly just working.
When put together, all of these things can mean the difference between an awkward teenager and a young woman who is ready to face the adult world. High school gymnastics classes have shown so much promise in ushering our future wives and mothers into the world emotionally prepared for whatever it has to offer.
Most importantly, even after reviewing the logistics of the goal-central attitude of high school gymnastics, there is a sense of teamwork and fun. Even in high school, students need this social interaction, escape from their studies, and the opportunity to create memories with new friends.
