How to Install an In Ground Trampoline?

So you decided to install an in ground trampoline?
The in ground trampoline usually sits just above a pit that is 27 to 29 inches deep. To do this, you need to excavate a pit of 13.6 feet in diameter on the top of the trampoline that sits above the ground and 12.6 feet in diameter for the lowest part of the pit. If the in ground trampoline must be assembled in the pit areal, then the pit diameter should be 14.6 feet on top and 13.6 feet on the bottom. Before beginning the excavation, it is best to consult a landscaping expert for their recommendations on local soil conditions and the proper measures needed for drainage in the local area.
The entire in ground trampoline system will be 33 inches high to allow for the trampoline to be four to six inches above the grade. If the area requires extra measures for good drainage it may be beneficial to add 4 to 6 inches of gravel to the bottom of the pit for good drainage and prevention of standing water. If the area is particularly damp, a sump pump may be needed as well. This is a question for the local landscaping expert regarding local soil conditions and drainage. The site surrounding the in ground trampoline should have a minimum of 18 feet overhead clearance and nothing surrounding the area for 6 feet around. The ground should be soft with impact promoting grass, sand, wood shavings or other forgiving material.
Before you begin digging for the foundation for the in ground trampoline, collect and organize all the included hardware and parts for the in ground trampoline. These parts typically include the following: top frame segments, bottom frame segments, side panels, rubber edge protector strips, pad set, jumping surface, springs, bolts, nuts, washers, screws and a tool kit. After you have done that, set the panels out in a large circle. The template provided for the lower frame will aid in marking the pit for excavation. Make sure the spring holes on the top frame are facing up. Attach bolts and screws but only loosely to allow for movement of the system during assembly and bolt alignment. Using a long screwdriver to enable hole alignment is recommended. Assemble the lower ring again leaving screws loosely fastened. Overlap 3 panels on the ground upon each other to align holes.
Attach top holes to panel holes and to upper frame with bolt and washers on the panel side, nut and washer on frame side, keeping spring holes facing upward on top frame, again loosely tightened. Attach upper and lower frame rings using proper bolts and washers and nuts and washers, leaving all loosely fastened. Attach one panel at a time from lower bolts to upper with an Allen wrench. Continue until complete then tighten all bolts. Place frame in pit and back fill soil to make ridge rising up to edge of apparatus. Install the side springs. There will be frame and mat holes for each spring. Carefully check the pattern to see that each spring is connected. Install the Edge protector pad making sure all connections are complete. Do safety checks and enjoy the in ground trampoline.

A Dirty Dozen Mistakes Gymnastics Teachers Make and How to Fix Them

I'm not talking about coaches or high-level teachers. I'm talking about preschool, beginner, and intermediate instructional teachers. I'm going to talk about those obvious, but must-have attributes that make you the kind of teacher that every parent wants their child to have. The kind of teacher that kids scream your name when they see you outside the gym... the kind of teacher that kids adore and parents want their kids to grow up to be like. That is the kind of teacher who makes a great wage, because they are so valuable to their gym...the kind that every gym owner will bend over backwards to keep. Just like the one you're thinking of right now who made an impact on your life. This is the kind of teacher YOU can be!
Let's look at 12 mistakes teachers make and how we can fix them. These mistakes can be corrected with knowledge, the desire to be better, but then it takes action to do so.
I. Not using progressions- You need to have a system where a sub can see what to teach the kids when you're not there, to keep for legal purposes, and to show the parents how much their kids are learning. And, if you teach more than a few classes, how in the world can you remember what each class needs to do?
II. Teaching preschool like school-age- Preschool classes need more defined lesson plans and they need fun props. You need to use a different voice inflection, different music, and they just need a lot of lovin! And, with preschoolers, you need very specific instructions.
III. Not realizing that you can teach school-age almost like preschool-You can use some of the same drills, stations, and equipment that you use for your little ones, but you need to give your instructions in a different voice and tone. Be sure to use many of the same props you use in preschool to teach the older ones. For examples hand and foot prints when needed, bean bag between the ankles to keep their legs together for rolls, and a ball to bring their knees up while doing tuck jumps on the trampoline.
IV. Making too many stations-confusing activity and instruction-One-on-one training is the key to true instruction. Don't get caught up using too many stations and thinking a lot of activity is the key to a good class. Turning out good gymnasts and your students having a good time are the keys to a good class.
V. Not having fun with the kids- Preschoolers love the theme lesson plans like nursery rhymes, dinosaur week, and outer space week. They want kind teachers and fun with their classmates. For school-age kids, just learning new skills, making new friends, and getting awards is fun. Make the kids feel special and not only remember their names, but know their hobbies, their likes, and their pets. Remember their story from last week and send them notes in the mail, a birthday card, and an "I'm proud of you" postcard occasionally. Go above and beyond and create a true relationship with the student and their family.
VI. Not repeating skill names or reviewing at the end of class- What does every parent ask when a child gets in the car after class? "What did you do? and "Did you have fun?" If they can't remember the skill names, it hasn't been learned. Review what you did with them at the end of class.
VII. Not including parents- Use memos, newsletters, and parent-teacher conferences to relay information to parents and to keep them in the loop about what their children are learning. Creating a relationship with the parents secures the customer service triangle of teacher, parent, and child. They will become your ambassadors to the outside world and bring in more students via positive word of mouth about your business.
VIII. Not giving enough awards- Kids love to get them and parents love to see their kids happy. Moms will put certificates into scrapbooks and display those trophies and medals on shelves in the house for all to see. That is a great marketing tool.
IX. Not keeping to your word- When you're disciplining a child, your word is golden. Also, when you're promising you'll call the parent or find out an answer for them, by all means, do it! Keep your word!
X. Giving the students control- Don't ask them what they want to do, make the lesson plan ahead of time and stick to it...UNLESS it isn't working, then it's your job to change it. The first day of class is the key to creating respect and trust. Don't have kids warm-up the class or spot other students. Be sure they're in the proper attire for their safety. It's your job.
XI. Forgetting that each child is different- Every child learns a different way and because of that, you must deliver the lesson using these methods: auditory by explaining the skill, visual by demonstrating the skill, and kinesthetic by spotting them on the skill. Keep this mantra in your head, Tell, Show, Spot! Every child's personality is unique and may need a different approach. Be aware of their fitness level and adjust for that. Celebrate their uniqueness and make them feel special in their body.
XII. Not letting the enthusiasm shine that you have for kids and gymnastics!- If you don't have it, go flip hamburgers at McDonalds instead of flipping kids at a gym school. The word enthusiasm comes from a Greek word, "en theos" meaning God within. Look at the last four letters of the word, I-A-S-M. It could stand for I AM SOLD ON MYSELF. If you are sold on your abilities, your school and what it stands for, and you have a love of children, your enthusiasm will shine... and so will you!

Performing a double full twist is an example of innovation, procedure, and efficiency. I bet you never knew gymnastics could relate to Operations Management. For several years I have taught gymnastics to boys and girls ranging from 2 to 18 years old. Watching a child become proficient in gymnastics is an example of a transformational process. A transformational process is defined as a user of resources to transform inputs into some desired outputs. An input is everything you need to make a product or service. The output is the result. The inputs in this situation would be the practice, time, effort, money spent for lessons, and dedication to the sport. The outputs are anything from a forward roll to a "series", which consists of a combination of complicated gymnastics stunts performed sequentially. A "series" is a good example of a process on its own.
A series begins with a short run, followed by a round-off, which is followed by a choice of back-handsprings, tucks, twists, or layouts. It is ended with a gymnastics stance, by which the gymnast lands on both feet and then steps back with one foot while raising both hands in the air. Start to finish, the process lasts anywhere from 5 seconds to a minute. The gymnast has to be efficient during the play. If she does not get a powerful run in the beginning, the entire routine will suffer. She has to ensure that she is squatting low enough in each preparation to get a sizeable jump to ensure enough time to flip in the air before reaching the floor. Much time is spent on perfecting these processes. Gymnasts earn scholarships and even Olympic medals for their precise execution of processes. The next time you look at a gymnast, you can think of him or her as a Process Manager.
Companies compete on competitive dimensions. Selling gymnastics lessons is no different. We compete on quality. Our students learn technical skills in a sequential order, without being progressed until the current level of skill is satisfied. The cycle time for each student to progress to the next level is typically one school year. Most of our students perform for competitive cheerleading squads and/or cheer for high school squads. Productivity is a common measure on how well resources are being used. In the broadest sense, it can be defined as outputs divided by inputs.
To be useful, there needs to be a baseline. The best indicator of success is benchmarking previous results of our own school. By having a long history in the business, as far as gymnastics is concerned, we are able to judge exactly how many students we should have, how many should be performing at each level, and what we need to be doing to improve each area. Any indicator of slack is dealt with quickly because it only takes one child lagging in a class to pull the rest down. This child may be referred to as a bottleneck. The only bottleneck allowed in our gym is a cold Root Beer after practice.

Backward Roll 101 - How to Teach a Backward Roll

One gymnastics skill that every gymnast will have to learn at one point or another is a backwards roll. Many people wouldn't think of this skill as very important, but believe me, it is! A backward roll is the foundation of many different skills such as: backward-roll to pike, backward-roll to pushup, back extension roll, back tuck, double backs, etc. Make sure you learn and practice your backward roll the correct way. Correct technique in each and every gymnastics skill is very vital because these beginning skills are the base to so many important and required upper gymnastics level skills. Here is the step by step instructions on doing a correct backwards roll, hope this helps!

Squat down with your legs and feet together.
Bend your arms and place your hands right next to your ears with your palms facing the ceiling and your fingers facing backwards.
Tuck your chin to your chest
Round your back like a cat
Lean backwards and roll
Once your hands meet the ground make your arms straight and push off the floor.
Land on your feet in either a pike or a squat (do not land on your knees)

Many times gymnastics coaches use an incline gymnastics mat or wedge mat as a teaching aid for rolls. It gives the gymnasts a little more momentum.
When spotting a gymnast on this gymnastics skill you want to lift their hips so they don't hurt their neck.
Before you introduce the backward roll to your gymnast you should try starting them out with a gymnastics drill. For this drill you should start just like normal but once you roll you should squash your hands against the floor and then re-roll forward. This is kinda like a candle stick but with bent knees and arms. Each time your gymnast tries this drill encourage them to push off their hands more and more.
Mistakes in a Backward Roll
The most common mistakes gymnasts make is arching and throwing their head and shoulders backward. When doing a backward-roll you must round your back like a kitty cat.
The second most common mistake I see gymnasts make is not pushing off their hands. If they do not push off their hands they usually hurt their neck and never make it over. Usually they go back and fall over to the side.

However, even where the women and men cross over i.e in Floor and Vault, the disciplines are different. The womens floor routine is done to music and is usually performed in a balletic style. The mens floor routine is not performed to music and is done is a masculine style. The vault is also different in that the horse is placed horizontally for women and length-ways for men.
